Travel Basics

At Joe's Journeys, not only do I want you to save money on your holiday, but I also want you to have the best time and not be caught out by hidden or nasty costs which can put a cloud over your Journey.

With this in mind, whilst sorting flights, hotels and car hire, there are things most of us forget to sort including Visas, Foreign currency or even what the foreign advise is. In the UK, we are so used to hopping into Europe, without the need for a Visa and using our cards for everything, however, not every country is like this.

The links below are here as a guide, but always make sure you do your own checks, particularly with the embassy that you are travelling to.

How to Book you Journey

There are 2 ways you can book:

1) From the emails I send you, click on the links, tweak the dates so they suit your travel date and buy direct

2) Click the links above (or below) of things you need, select the dates, locations and/or products that suit you, find your deal and buy direct.

Should I wait before booking?

Prices go up and down all the time. The prices I send you may not be around for long, so I would always recommend booking them as soon as possible, especially if there is a free cancellation offer, as most will only be around for a few days, if not hours!

Google Vs Kayak Flights Vs Sky Scanner

Google flights is an amazing flight searching engine/tool and for me has revolutionised flight searching. Once you've found a trip your happy with, you are then offered links to the airlines to pay for your flights, but they may not be the best prices you can get.

That's where Kayak Flights and Sky Scanner come in. They are an Online Travel Agency, who will have full ATOL and ABTA certification (always check this before booking) therefore are usually able to give better deals. However, they will have less flexibility or higher cancellation fees.

My advice - Use Google flights to find out what options are available, then put your flight info in Kayak Flights then it's up to you where you feel comfortable booking.

A great example of an OTA is Kiwi

Why do you use Hotels.com?

There are hundreds of ways of booking hotels and loads of comparison sites too. However, I've been using Hotels.com for as long as I can remember. Why? Because every time I leave the country I know my booking is safe and secure. Their prices are really easy and simple to understand. Also, as long as you book at least one night every 12 months, you get a free night after 10 nights completed (this means booked and stayed at). This is something which I have definitely made the most of in the past!

The best part for me is that there are different rates depending on cancellation clauses, giving you loads of flexibility should you need to change for any reason, sometimes you can do so right up to the night before!

Who are AutoEurope?

AutoEurope are effectively agents for Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, etc. This means not only can you get a quote from multiple companies at the same time, but you also get some amazing deals in the process.

Again, a bit like Hotels.com they also offer a free cancellation policy, usually up to 48 hours before you're due to collect the car, meaning you get great flexibility should your travel arrangements change.
